Healing herbs for Heartburn

Heartburn, known in medical circles as gastroesophageal reflux, begins with stomach acid. We all need acid to digest our food, but sometimes it escapes the stomach and travels upward. That happens when the sphincter, a valve between your stomach and esophagus the pipe that carries your food to your stomach fails to close properly.

The acid sometimes refluxes, or flows back, into the esophagus. This happens especially if you’ve eaten too much just before bedtime. Lying flat with a full stomach invites an open sphincter and reflux, as do certain foods, including spicy onions, chocolate, peppermint, alcohol, and citrus. Try supplementing with acid-calming herbs.
