Hemorrhoids
They’re a source of youngsters’ chuckles when hemorrhoids relieving ads hit nightly television, but hemorrhoids become a serious reality as we age. The symptoms of hemorrhoids alone can signal discomfort: bulging veins in the rectum bring pain, burning, and itching. Blood can fill the toilet bowl if a movement has grazed a bulging vein.
These herbs can help strengthen blood vessels and soothe rectal inflammation and bleeding.
RECOMMENDED HERBS
Bilberry • Calendula • Chamomile • Dandelion • Ginkgo • Hibiscus • Horse chestnut • Marshmallow • Plantain • Stinging nettle • Witch hazel • Yarrow
1.WITCH HAZEL SOOTHER
This astringent, or drying, herb helps shrink swollen tissues around bulging veins. It also strengthens the veins.
1–2 applications
WHAT YOU’LL NEED: 1 cup water 2 teaspoons dried witch hazel leaf and bark
WHAT YOU’LL DO:
1. Combine the water and witch hazel in a saucepan. Bring to a boil, reduce the heat, and simmer for 15 minutes.
2. Strain out the witch hazel and cool.
3. Thoroughly wet a tissue or cotton ball and apply directly to bulging veins after each movement.
ALTERNATIVE: You can purchase a commercial water extract preparation at your local pharmacy.
2.ESSENTIAL HERBS SITZ BATH
Witch hazel, chamomile, and calendula all help soothe and strengthen bulging veins. 1 application
WHAT YOU’LL NEED: 2 tablespoons olive oil 5 drops calendula essential oil 5 drops chamomile essential oil 2 tablespoons witch hazel soother ½ cup Epsom salt.
WHAT YOU’LL DO:
1. In a small bowl, mix the olive oil, calendula oil, chamomile oil, and witch hazel.
2. Fill a warm sitz bath, and stir in the Epsom salts.
3. Stir in the diluted essential oils.
4. Submerge the pelvic area and soak for 15–20 minutes.
